What’s in your purse? An intro (writing)

The assignment was to empty our purse or backpack and use the contents to create a story.

Video Storytelling Introduction Assignment

Fishing into my bag for my first item.  Ice-Breakers gum, well isn’t that perfect for an introduction?  Did you know that foil-wrapped gum will often disintegrate in this Houston humidity before you can chew all the sticks in a pack?  So that’s why I carry Ice-Breakers.  It comes in a handy plastic tub with an air-tight clasp, which is remarkably satisfying to click open and closed.

As I upend my cross-body bag, I have a pair of aviators in a sunglasses case.  And since we are being introspective here, I realized that the case represents how I like to protect the things that matter to me.  I like to hedge my bets.

I have a mini obsession with quality gel pens.  There are currently 2 in my bag.  I’m more of a bag person than a purse person.  They happen to be blue and orange.  Go Gators!  One is holding my place in a word search book printed on recycled paper.  And the other is clipped by the cap to a stack of my business cards.  Everything has a purpose.

Next is my green leather wallet.  The kind that zips all the way closed.  Again, protecting what matters.  My new Gator 1 Card is still housed in the protective sleeve made of fabric-like paper in which it arrived.

I have 2 sets of keys.  One for driving, and one for the gym.  I unlock the church gym weekday mornings for a dance fitness class with my friends.

A rather ordinary grouping of items, but one that highlights the priorities and goals of my present life.  So as you can see, I am anti-halitosis, pro-preparedness, a fitness junkie, and a student again.
